Submit your proposals for a special collaboration for Melt Festival 25, as part of BEMAC's Artistic Program 'A Stage Called Home' by Monday, May 26.
BEMAC is partnering with Studio 188 to
present a special collaboration for
Melt Festival 25, which will involve working with an Ipswich (Tulmur)-based artist (to be identified later) on a creative development through Ipswich Civic Centre’s
Hatchery 4305 AiR Program (including up to 6 weeks of development space and up to 12 hours of technical support) culminating in public outcomes during Melt Festival 25 (22 October to 9 November)
.We are seeking proposals from artists with an idea for a collaborative performance project that fits with Melt Festival remit of being a city-wide festival that aims to foster inclusivity, provoke thought and celebrate LGBTQIA+ communities and artists.
The selected artist(s) will then be part of a separate selection process to identify a suitable collaborator, based in the Ipswich region.
Together, the collaborating artists will
receive support from Ipswich Civic Centre through the
Hatchery 4305 AiR program which includes up to 6 weeks of development space at no cost, with flexible hours, around existent bookings in the Fire Station 101 Main Space, Workshop Room and Office, up to 12 hours of free technical support (lighting or sound) and a potential $2000 financial support for creative development through RADF
Time and Space grant
.BEMAC will partner with the artists to deliver their show, supporting all technical, promotional, logistical and planning aspects, and provide additional artist fees, to be negotiated with the selected artists.
The collaboration will conclude with two public outcomes during Melt Festival (22 October to 9 November, 2025):
- A free performance, dress rehearsal or community engagement (workshop, masterclass or artist talk).
- A ticketed performance at Studio 188, Ipswich.
The outcomes will also have marketing support from both BEMAC and Ipswich City Centre, including design assistance, website listings, social media promotion, electronic direct mail and posters in the venue and surrounds.
The invitation is open to individuals, bands, collectives, community groups and non-profit organisations.
Three programming principles underpin BEMAC's Artistic Program:
- Courageous in creativity – We aim to support artists at all career and development stages, whose creative and professional aspirations are solidly grounded on the creation of original work of the highest quality and relevance possible.
- Determined in diversity – We aim to ensure that diverse stories, voices and expressions are duly represented and that they are embraced and welcomed into a platform of creativity, conversation and cross-pollination.
- Enablers of change – We aim to drive positive social change towards the elimination of racism, discrimination and exclusion by fostering self-determination and cultural safety with the agency to freely express.
Proposals need to demonstrate a clear, original concept and respond to at least one of our programming principles, a high level of artistic practice and a commitment to representing diverse voices, cultural identities and expressions.
In addition, proposals will need to show alignment with Melt Festival's aims of fostering inclusivity, provoking thought and celebrating LGBTQIA+ communities and artists. Callout closes: Monday 26 May 2025
